Sébastien Jodoin speaks at a panel event at the UN Human Rights Council

01/08/2020

Professor Sébastien Jodoin recently spoke at a panel on the rights of persons with disabilities in the context of climate change at the UN Human Rights Council. Professor Jodoin spoke of a disability rights approach to understanding climate change, and the obligations of states to adopt and implement climate mitigation and adaptation measures. The exclusion of persons with disabilities from multilateral climate negotiations was also addressed, as Professor Jodoin highlighted that the disability community does not currently have a constituency enabling it to participate in UNFCCC processes, and urged the council and members to support its establishment. The panel discussion can be viewed here (Professor Jodoin's comments begin around the 30:08 mark).
