Human Rights Watch: a report on the impacts of the 2022 monsoon flooding on the rights of people with disabilities and older people

By Naomi Gupta

A recently published Human Rights Watch report entitled “Bangladesh: Protect People Most At Risk During Monsoon Season”, shed light on how people with disabilities and older people were affected by the 2022 monsoon flooding in Bangladesh. While Bangladesh committed to include people with disabilities and older people in disaster response policies, and most recently in the national climate change adaptation plan, Human Rights Watch found that these efforts did not translate into practice during the June 2022 floods, leaving older people and people with disabilities unprotected and unable to access basic services, which placed their lives at risk.
